Open Philanthropy is aiming to hire a Staff Assistant to help support our growing team. We currently give away over $150 million per year with the aim of doing as much good as we can per dollar, across causes including biosecurity, farm animal welfare, and potential risks from advanced artificial intelligence. Over the next decade, we plan to increase our giving by several times while continuing to raise our bar for impact. Our website has more about who we are, what we’re about, and what we fund.

We’re looking for a competent and enthusiastic generalist to support the farm animal welfare and potential risks from advanced AI teams with a variety of work. The Staff Assistant will work most closely with Lewis Bollard and Luke Muehlhauser, and will:

  • Perform administrative tasks including scheduling, booking travel, submitting reimbursements, and more.
  • Enter data and keep internal spreadsheets up to date.
  • Collect data, including through emails and online research.
  • Track grants, internal predictions, and grantee compliance with policies.
  • Organize events and support scholarship programs we fund.
  • Draft emails to grantees, applicants, and various other contacts.
  • Take on other projects and responsibilities over time, based on skills and interest.

The deadline for applying to this role has now passed. If you would still like to apply, please contact jobs@openphilanthropy.org and we may be able to accommodate you.

You might be a good fit if you:

  • Take pride in being extremely well-organized.
  • Are reliable, conscientious and detail-oriented in your work.
  • Have a talent for noticing inefficiencies and optimizing processes.
  • Are excited about Open Phil’s work; especially as it relates to farm animal welfare and potential risks from advanced AI.
