Open Philanthropy recommended a total of approximately $221,000 to enable individuals in the early stages of their careers to pursue work and study related to global catastrophic biological risks.[1]This is an estimate because of uncertainty around tuition costs and currency exchange rates in future years. This number may be updated as costs are finalized. We sought the majority of applications for this funding here.
Recipients include:
- Kirsten Angeles — biosecurity research, focused on the Philippines
- Rassin Lababidi — career transition into biosecurity
- Britt Lampert — freelance policy analysis
- Daniel Paul Rice — career transition into biosecurity
- Elika Somani — post-baccalaureate fellowship at the National Institutes of Health
This falls within our focus area of biosecurity and pandemic preparedness.
