Open Philanthropy recommended a grant of £118,780 (approximately $146,812 at the time of conversion) to the University of Stirling to support research led by Dr. Amaya Albalat to develop humane electrical stunning techniques for farmed whiteleg shrimp. Currently, farmed shrimp are generally not electrically stunned before slaughter. This research will inform possible future efforts to deploy humane stunning techniques in shrimp farms.
This falls within our focus area of farm animal welfare, particularly within our interest in fish welfare.
